I have always been fascinated by the albums that bands broke up over, and 'Audio Variable Love' was just that for us. We recorded and mixed this album ourselves over the course of almost two years, while having to move our studio twice and keep up with a steady stream of gigs. Honestly, the album is probably too long for the short attention span that most listeners have today. There are 16 tracks, with an obvious shift in tone on the "second side" Starting with the song 'Chase It With Light.' I guess that our vision was to have the first half be a rock record, and to have the second half take the listener somewhere else. The second half is ethereal, wanting and at times soulful. Although you can listen to individual tracks, we intended for this album to be a continuous piece. I know that sounds pretentious, but we have always appreciated albums that carry the listener through a sustained experience.
Paul Thompson and I finished mixing in September of 2014. At this time there was no longer a Situationist to promote the album, and we had all moved on to new projects. Lacking the funds to press the album on either vinyl or cd we shelved it. I would still like to see hard copies made someday. I worked up fairly extensive linear notes, artwork and even a poster for this project. For now you can download it here on Bandcamp and there are several tracks available for free on Soundcloud and Reverb Nation. Thank you for listening.
